Legendary New Jersey Rock Club Resurrected In Upcoming Adventure Series

August 22, 2006

Before closing its doors for good in 2003, the Birch Hill nightclub played host to many bands — from ACE FREHLEY to KING'S X. You name the band and they have played there. The Birch Hill has long since been closed, but a new life has been given to the club in the upcoming multimedia adventure series, "Night Traveler: Prophecy of the Elder".

Created by award winning filmmaker/producer R.E. Asbury, the series follows a young musician named Jake Whitman on a journey of discovery and adventure.

Asbury, who has performed at the Birch Hill many times himself, opening for acts such as UNION, Karl Cochran's VOODOOLAND, and SEBASTIAN BACH, used images of the club to create the setting for the opening episode of the "Night Traveler" series. Renamed "The Lair" in the story, the image of the Birch Hill nightclub is a reminder of the days when rock clubs where the place to see intimate shows by your favorite national acts, but also to discover new bands, as local rock acts would often fill the opening slots of the evenings roster.

"Lots of things in the series are autobiographical in a sense," says Asbury. "I always had a great time playing at the Birch Hill and I have a ton of special memories of the club."

Lending their voices to the series are pro wrestling icon Roddy Piper, "Star Wars" legend Jeremy Bulloch, and Cindy Morgan, star of Disney's "Tron" and "Caddyshack".
